The Next One

An enormous asteroid hit the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico 65 million years ago. It is thought to have wiped out the dinosaurs (those that didn't become birds) and lots of other life. The Economist reports on the new effort to find the next dangerous asteroid. Walter Alvarez, mentioned in the article, established the impact theory of dinosaur extinction.
