Global Consciousness

The Global Consciousness Project is an international effort to ascertain global human consciousness by examining random event generators. The event generators are running constantly all over the world and the data is analyzed to see if profound events such as 9/11, the World Cup, or, most recently, the Mumbai attacks can interact with the generators and cause departures from randomness.

Researchers have claimed non-random patterns correlated with major events including Princess Diana's funeral. While such a phenomenon would be astounding, there's good reason for skepticism, including most obviously the question of selection bias in choosing events for analysis.

You can click on that button to get a color chart of global thought coherence (green means normal random), I'm not kidding. I can't confirm the button's affiliation with the Project, but it was irresistible.
