Space Smells Like Fried Steak and Hot Metal

According to new NASA research (h/t DJ), space smells like fried steak and hot metal. In an effort to best approximate the outer space experience, NASA hired chemist Steven Pearce to simulate the smell of space. Astronauts have reported smells of steak and metal. Pearce reports "We have already produced the smell of fried steak, but hot metal is proving more difficult. We think it's a high energy vibration in the molecule and that's what we're trying to add to it now."

All of which leads inevitably to this question: Does space taste like chicken?
