Iraqi Prime Minister: British Can Leave

In breaking news from Iraq, Nouri al-Maliki declared on October 11 that 4,100 British troops in the south are no longer "necessary for maintaining security and control." The United Kingdom put 40,000 soldiers in Iraq in 2003 and has suffered over 170 fatalities since that time.

What about the status of American troops? Unclear. There is still no security deal and a December 31, 2008 deadline is fast approaching.
